SIX HORNETS EARN GREAT WEST CONF. ACADEMIC HONORS

Naperville, Ill. (Feb. 3, 2010) --- Six Delaware State University women's soccer players have been cited by the Great West Conference for their work in the classroom last fall.  DSU's Chelsea Brown, Michelle Giorgilli, Ashlee Gourdine, Courteney Haas, Leah Hontz and Kristin Mathis have earned Great West Conference All-Academic honors for the Fall 2009 semester.

Brown and Giorgilli were among 10 Great West Conference student-athletes with perfect  4.0 grade-point averages last semester.

In all, 171 Great West Conference student-athletes were named to the team based on a minimum cumulative 3.2 grade point average. The athletes also must have participated in at least 50 percent of their respective team's contests. First-year students and JC transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.

The Delaware State women's soccer team joined the Great West Conference prior to the 2009 season. The league also includes the University of California-Davis, Cal Poly, North Dakota, South Dakota, Southern Utah, Chicago State, Houston Baptist, New Jersey Tech, Longwood, Seattle, Texas-Pan American, Utah Valley, Howard and South Carolina State.

Delaware State, Howard, South Carolina State, Longwood and New Jersey Tech compete in the Great West Conference in women's soccer only.
