Dover, Del. (Feb. 2, 2010) --- Delaware State has held onto the No. 3 spot in the latest National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) Top 20 collegiate bowling poll.
The Hornets, under first-year head coach Ricki Williams-Ellison, received three first-place votes and 468 total points in the January NTCA poll. DSU's No. 3 ranking is the highest in team history. Vanderbilt and Maryland-Eastern Shore remained 1-2 in the poll. Vanderbilt collected 13 first place votes and 556 points, while UMES earned the remaining four first place votes 523 points.
Since the December 2009 poll, the Hornets clinched the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division title and posted a strong third-pace showing at the Arkansas Mid-Winter Classic.
Fairleigh Dickinson, Central Missouri, Arkansas State, Adelphi, defending NCAA champ Nebraska, New Jersey City and St. Francis round out the Top 10 in the January NTCA poll.
In addition to Delaware State and Maryland-Eastern Shore, the MEAC is also represented in the poll by No. 18 Florida A&M, No. 19 Norfolk State, and No. 20 Morgan State.
Delaware State will return to action this weekend when many of the nation's top teams will be in town for the Capital Classic Feb. 6-7 at Brunswick Doverama.
