HORNETS RUN OUT OF GAS IN LOSS TO GEORGIA TECH

HORNETS NO MATCH FOR ARIZONA STATE

Tempe, Ariz. (Dec. 12, 2009) --- Arizona State scored 23 unanswered first half points en route to a 76-34 men's basketball win over Delaware State at Wells Fargo Arena Saturday afternoon.

The Sun Devils snapped a two-game losing streak to improve to 7-3 on the season, while the Hornets dropped their third in a row to fall to 4-4.

Victor Rudd came off the bench to lead three Arizona State players in double figures with 15 points. He was six-for-seven from the field, including three-of-four from three-point territory. Derek Glasser had 14 points and a game-high nine assists, while Trent Lockett added 10 points for the Sun Devils.

Frisco Sandidge was high scorer for Delaware State with 12 points, while Marcus Neal had 11 for the Hornets. Neal's performance included three three-point field goals. Jay Threatt led the Hornets with five assists.

Arizona State took charge of the game after Delaware State pulled to within 9-8 on a basket by Trevor Welcher with 14:07 left in the first half.

The Sun Devils scored the next 23 points, and opened up a 32-8 lead on a jumper by Lockett with 5:48 left in the half. Arizona State was 10-for-14 from the field during the run. Lockett scored 10 points and Eric Boateng four, while the Hornets missed each of their nine shots and committed five turnovers during the span run.

Glasser hit a driving lay up as the first half clock expired to give Arizona State a 42-12 lead at the break. Delaware State was 4-for-22 from the field (18.2%) in the first half.

The Sun Devils opened up a 69-29 lead on a three-pointer by Rudd with 4:51 left to play.

Arizona State shot 57.1% from the field (28-for-49), and 47.6% from three-point territory (10-for-21).

Delaware State returns to action on Saturday (Dec. 19) against Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio.
