Dover, Del. (Nov. 24, 2009) --- The Delaware State women's basketball team hit just 14 of 56 shots from the floor (25%) in a 52-43 loss to Navy in Memorial Hall Tuesday evening. The Lady Hornets dropped their third straight to fall to 1-3, while the Midshipmen improved to 5-1.
Navy's Angela Myers led all players with 14 points, while teammate K.C. Gordon had 10. Cassie Consedine had a team-high 12 rebounds for the Mids.
Cortney Crockett and Tonya Clark led Delaware State with eight points each. DSU's Brittany Washington led all players with a career-high 14 rebounds.
Navy scored the first seven points of the game, and opened up a 12-2 lead on a lay up by Gordon with 14:49 left in the first half.
Delaware State used a 12-3 run to get back into the game. Dee Holloman capped off the run with a three-pointer to pull the Lady hornets to within 21-20 with 2:35 remaining in the half.
Navy scored the last six points of the first half to hold a 27-20 lead at the break.
The Midshipmen scored 12 of the first 16 points in the second half, and opened up a 39-24 lead on two free throws by Myers with 13:22 left to play.
The Lady Hornets cut Navy's lead to 43-37 on a lay up by Clark with 5:24 remaining, but could get no closer the rest of the way.
Delaware State will return to action on Dec. 2 at Long Island.
