DOVER, Del. (Nov. 13th) - Delaware State Women's Basketball lifted the lid on the 2009-10 campaign with an 84-28 victory over Lincoln University on Friday night at Memorial Hall in Dover.
Brittany Washington had career highs of 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Lady Hornets. Selena Galloway also shared game-high honors with 17 points. Cortney Crockett matched her career high with 15 points, while grabbing a personal-best 11 rebounds. Alexis Abraham (14) and Stephanie (10) also reached double-figures for DSU. Abraham's total included two-of-three shooting from three-point range.
Lincoln was able to keep the game within reach early, down only 14-8 with 11 minutes left in the first half. But a 28-10 run by DSU to close the opening stanza would be enough to end all doubt. Cortney Crockett and Brittany Washington would lead the way for the Lady Hornets, picking up 11 and 10 points respectively for the first half. The Hornets would out-rebound the Lions 25-13, as well as force 16 turnovers while conceding only 11.
A 42-10 domination in the second half would emphasize the speed, size, and quickness advantage of the Hornets. Sharay Dubose would be tops for Lincoln with 12 points.
Senior Hornet forward Ashley Thompson also suffered a leg injury that limited her to just six minutes. The extent of her injury is unknown at this time.
