Dover (Sep. 24, 2009) --- Delaware State University's women's basketball players and coaches were winners off the court last weekend. The Lady Hornets traded a basketball for hammers, drills and work gloves to provide much needed help to some Dover area families last Saturday. The team took part in the First State Resource Conservation and Development Council's Emergency Home Repair Project. In all, the Lady Hornets contributed more than 180 volunteer hours assisting with repairs on the homes of area low-income families.
"This project provided an opportunity for our program to give back to the community," said Trenita Shields, DSU's Director of Women's Basketball Operations. "It also allowed each of us to realize how fortunate we are, and how we can make a difference in the lives of others. I am extremely proud of the efforts of the entire team and coaching staff; and special thanks to RC&D Emergency Home Repair."
