Hornets Club Purpose
To secure funding for student-athlete scholarships, facility improvements and general support for Delaware State University Athletics while fostering camaraderie, sportsmanship and school spirit among students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends.
As a member of the Hornets Club, you can direct your support to helping the overall quality of DSU Athletics. Or you can give to one of your favorite sports, cheerleading or athletic training.

As a member of Delaware State University Hornet Club, you play a very important role in the success of all of our intercollegiate athletic teams. Your financial support is extremely important to Delaware State University. Your generous donations will assist the athletic department in a variety of important areas, including the supplementing of budgets and funding of scholarships.
Delaware State Hornet has over 320 student-athletes, and we are committed to giving them the best student-athlete experience possible. We cannot achieve our goals without your help.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I become part of the Hornet Club?
- Give annually between July 1 and June 30 to DSU Athletics and you will become a member at your giving level.
- Call the Office of Development at 302.857.6056 and make your gift via credit card over the phone.
- Fill out the reply card on the right panel of this brochure and mail with your contribution.
- Go to www.desu.edu and click on Contribute to DSU to make a gift online.
How will funds contributed to the Hornet Club be used?
- Your contribution to the Hornet Club well be used to support student-athlete scholarships,
- Facility improvements and general support for DSU Athletics depending upon your instructions. As a member you can direct your support to one of your favorite athletic programs of your choice. Funds cannot be directed toward any particular individual.
Is my contribution 100% tax deductible?
- According to IRS publication 526, contributions are considered charitable:
- If you received a benefit as a result of making a contribution to a qualified organization, you can deduct only the amount of your contribution that is more than the value of the benefit you receive.
- If you make a payment to, or for the benefit of, a college or university and, as a result, you receive the right to buy tickets to an athletic event, you can deduct 80% of the payment.
Why am I writing my check out to DSU Foundation, Inc.?
- The Delaware State University Foundation, Inc. manages private gifts for the benefit of Delaware State University thus assuring the donor that the purpose for which funds were donated will be respected.
I am a member of the DSU Alumni Association. Do my membership dues count as a gift to the Hornet Club?
- The DSU Alumni Association is an independent membership organization, and membership dues are not considered a gift to the University or to intercollegiate athletics.
Do I have to pay the entire amount for my desired level at once?
- You may elect to make a pledge with monthly, quarterly or semiannual payments. Your levelof membership is based upon funds received.

- Over 80% of our student-athletes need some form of financial assistance.
- Rising scholarship costs, escalating travel expenses and the need for modern facilities require that new sources of revenue be discovered.
- Athletic competition and athletic success are important to Delaware State University. Financial stability in athletics breeds success and success breed pride among the
- University's many alumni and friends. In order to maintain success in college athletics, DSU and our student athletes needs your support. Through your efforts of the Hornets Club, all aspects of the campus life for our student athletes will be enriched. DSU has served the Dover community since1890. Your support ensures that we can continue to educate well rounded leaders for the future generations to come. Your participation, regardless of the amount, will help put DSU closer to achieving its goals.
