LONG ISLAND GIVES DSU ITS SECOND STRAIGHT LOSS

BROOKLYN, NY (August 31, 2008) ? Despite their first goal of the season by Freshman Navado Wood, the women's soccer team lost its second-straight game, 5-1, to the Long Island University Blackbirds, dropping their season record to 0-2.

“We played a very strong team tonight in LIU,” Head Coach Nitan Soni said. “We need to work on errors that we continue to make and we will do that.”

Those errors came mainly on the defensive end as LIU out shot the Hornets 15-1 in the first half. However, right before the half, Wood split the Blackbird defense and drilled a shot to the low corner of the net closing the gap to two goals.

The Hornet defense would hold its own in the second half as they allowed only seven shots. The offense, however, only mustered two shots as LIU would tack on two more goals to end the game at 5-1.

DSU goalkeeper Courtney Haas registered five saves in the loss.

The Hornets will open up their home schedule as they take on Wagner, on Wednesday, September 3, at Alumni Field. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
