LAVAN ANNOUNCES 2008 RECRUITING CLASS

2008 DSU Recruiting Class

Dover, DE ? The Delaware State University football team is coming off a championship season and Coach Al Lavan announced the signing of 19 recruits and nine players who are enrolled for the 2008 spring semester that he feels is the best class since he took over the helm in 2004.  “This is the best group of kids we have brought in from top to bottom since I have been here,” said Lavan.

Among the group are four junior college transfers and two Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) transfers.  The FBS transfers are former Bowling Green quarterback Anthony Glaud (Sicklerville, NJ) and wide receiver Zachutti Charles (Winter Haven, FL).

“I think this is the most balanced class that we have had, in reference to answering team needs,” stated Lavan.  In his fourth season, Lavan led the Hornets to the 2007 MEAC Championship and the schools first ever national playoff appearance.  The 10-2 finish was the Hornets first ever 10 win season and their 8-0 finish was their best conference finish in the history of DSU football.

To answer team needs, the recruiting class includes five defensive lineman, three offensive lineman, two quarterbacks, four wide receivers, four linebackers, five defensive backs, two tight ends, one runningback and one long snapper.

Among the high school signees there individuals who earned all-state or all league recognition during their high school senior season.

Joining the quarterback depth is Nicholas Elko (Odenton, MD/Arundel HS) who set many passing marks and was an All-State selection. Adding depth to the running back position is Julian Lang (Sicklerville, NJ/Timber Creek HS) who rushed for 1108 yards and scored 10 TDs as senior and was named All-Conference and All Group 3 of Southern New Jersey. Adding depth to the offensive line is Lawrence Davis (Florence, SC/Wilson HS) who was a first team All-State 4-A selection.

The defensive line is definitely getting a boost with the addition of David Izebere (Springdale, MD/CH Flowers HS) who received All-County, All League and All-State Honors.
