SURGING HORNETS DEBUT IN 2012 HSRN FOOTBALL RANKINGS

Dover, Del. (Oct. 23, 2012) --- A three-game win streak has propelled Delaware State into the Heritage Sports Radio Network (HSRN) national Black College Top 10 football rankings for the first time this season.

The Hornets (4-3 overall; 3-1 MEAC) are ranked seventh in the weekly HSRN Football Championship Subdivision Coaches poll. The poll is headed by Tennessee State, which collected eight of 14 first place votes and 142 total points. Delaware State received 49 points in the poll.

Bethune-Cookman, Alabama A&M, North Carolina Central and Arkansas-Pine Bluff round out the HSRN top five.

Delaware State's next opponent, Morgan State, is ranked 10th in the poll.

The HSRN poll is voted on members of the media and HBCU sports information representatives.

Also, the Hornets held onto the No. 6 spot in the weekly Boxtorow national Black College FCS coach's poll.  That poll is headed by Bethune-Cookman, which received six of 15 first place votes and 150 total points. Delaware State collected 73 points.

The Hornets received votes, but not enough to crack the Top 10 in the Boxtorow HBCU media poll.

The Boxtorow HBCU coaches and media FCS polls are administered by "From The Press Box To Press Row," The coaches poll is voted on by HBCU Football Championship Subdivision coaches and the media poll is voted on by members of the press.     

Delaware State seeks its fourth straight win this Thursday (Oct. 25) at Morgan State. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at Hughes Stadium in Baltimore, Md. The contest will be televised live on ESPNU.
