DOVER, Del. - Football senior Travis Tarpley (Danville, Va.) and women's soccer freshman Tere' Crawford (Dover, Del.) were named
Monday the Delaware State University student-athletes of the week.
Tarpley
collected nine catches for 128 yards and a touchdown to guide DSU to a 24-0
Homecoming win over North Carolina A&T Saturday at Alumni Stadium. With his numbers, the Preseason-All-MEAC
First Team selection moved into fourth place on the Hornets' all-time
receptions list with 143 and eighth in school history with 1,648 receiving
yards.
The
win was the third straight for Delaware State, who improved to 4-3 overall and
3-1 in the MEAC. The shutout was DSU's
first since blanking the Aggies, 27-0, in 2007.
It is also the first time since the 2007 season that the Hornets have
won three straight MEAC games.
Delaware
State next plays in front of a national audience this Thursday at Morgan
State. The 7:30 p.m. contest will be
televised live on ESPNU.
In
women's soccer action, Crawford scored her first career goal Sunday afternoon
to give the Hornets a 1-0 Great West Conference victory at Alumni Stadium for
Senior Day.
In
the 75th minute, Crawford was in the right place at the right time
as a rebounded shot came her way, about five yards out on the left side of the
goal. With the goalie still recovering
from the first shot, Crawford was able to knock the ball into the center of the
net to put DSU ahead.
The
win is DSU's second straight and third in the last four contests. The Hornets have wrapped up their home
schedule and will travel west to play Houston Baptist at 2 p.m. Saturday and
Utah Valley, Monday, Oct. 29 at 9 p.m.
The GWC Tournament will be held Nov. 2-5 in Orem, Utah.
