HORNETS BEGIN PRESEASON CAMP

Dover, Del. (Aug. 8, 2011) --- The late afternoon sun greeted the 2011 Delaware State University football team as the Hornets sweated through conditioning drills at Alumni Stadium during the first day of preseason camp.

New head Kermit Blount welcomed nearly 90 players, including 23 newcomers, to his first preseason camp with the Hornets. The first official practice is set for Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.  Blount has scheduled seven two-practice days, the first slated for Aug. 13. A full contract scrimmage is scheduled for Aug. 20.

"I'm looking forward to seeing what condition the players are in," Blount said prior to the start of Monday's  drills. "We have plenty of work to do to prepare for the upcoming season, and it's critical that the players are in the best shape possible."  

The Hornets will hold their Media/Meet The Team Day on Sun., Aug. 21 at Alumni Stadium. During the 6:00 p.m. event, fans are invited to greet, and take pictures with, the players and coaches,  

Delaware State will kick off the 2011 campaign on Sep. 3 at Virginia Military Institute (VMI). Game time is 1:30 p.m. in Lexington, Va.

Hornets will play their home opener the following Saturday (Sep. 10) against Shaw University. Kickoff is 6:00 p.m. at Alumni Stadium.
