UD vs. DSU FOOTBALL GAME TO BE TELECAST LIVE

NEWARK, Del. (September 8, 2009) - The SPORTSfever Television Network (STN) has reached an agreement with the University of Delaware and Delaware State University to televise the first regular season in-state rivalry game between these two universities on September 19, 2009 at noon.

"This live TV coverage by STN allows both schools to showcase their athletic talent to a wide audience in the mid-Atlantic region. It provides a connection to our alumni as well as a glimpse of our campus for prospective students and an opportunity to demonstrate our school spirit to millions of households," UD Director of Athletics and Recreation Services Bernard Muir said.

According to STN President and Owner, Gorden Blain, STN affiliates will be airing this game live to more than 5,000,000 households via a combination of cable, satellite and over-the-air broadcasts. "We have an agreement with WHYY to air the game live which provides total coverage in the State of Delaware and south Jersey, as well as southeastern Pennsylvania. The game will also be televised in the Wilkes-Barre-Scranton-Poconos market by WQMY (a My Network /Fox station), in the Harrisburg-Lancaster-York market by WGCB (an independent station), in western Pennsylvania by WQED (a public TV station) and FSN Pittsburgh (which also covers western, northwestern, central, northeastern PA, eastern Ohio, West Virginia)." The game will be rebroadcast at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, September 20th on WHYY-TV's Y Arts channel and FSN Pittsburgh will air the game on replay as part of its Monday Night College Football Game of the Week on September 21st at 7:30 p.m.

Route 1 Rivalry Football Game Named

Throughout the past summer The News Journal Media Group presented a reader contest to "name" this Route 1 Rivalry football game. Through a "NAME IT" promotion which ran prominently in The News Journal and on DelawareOnline.com, more than 4,000 different suggestions were submitted to name the trophy. Together with the nearly 6,000 combined votes from both university campuses, approximately 10,000 votes were received on this new and exciting rivalry between the University of Delaware Blue Hens and the Delaware State Hornets. "Together with the Delaware Industries for the Blind, The News Journal Media Group will present "The First State Cup" to the winning football team," according to JB Braun, Director of Market Development for The News Journal Media Group.
